  Bai Chay/Halong Pier

Honoi Opera Cruise  exclusive and private pier is situated on Bai Cháy Beach. Upon arriving in Ha Long city, visitors will travel along Bai Cháy, or “Scorched Beach”. Judging by the name visitors may mistakenly think that this is due to dry climate or lack of wind in this area.

However, contrary to this interpretation, Bai Cháy benefits from calming sea breezes and pleasantly warm water temperatures and is very popular with locals and tourists alike. During the warmer summer and fall months the temperature in Halong Bay averages around 70 - 80 degrees F and the long expanse of sandy beach is filled with swimmers and sunbathers.

According to the most popular local legend, Bai Cháy got its name long ago, based on an historical event. Where the beach lies now was once forest. In 1287, the Mongols led by the great General Truong Van Ho attacked Vietnam by sea and were driven back by General Tran Khanh Du. Many Mongolian ships were set afire and drifted to shore propelled by high winds setting the forest afire, thus the name - Scorched Beach.
